Buying a property in Spain
Property in Spain can still be one of the best investments that you will make.... Compared to the UK property prices are still very competitive, and there is a wide choice available to you as a buyer.
Living cost are substantially lower than the UK, the climate is far better for your health, particularly if you suffer from joint pain or respiratory problems, and the pace of life is far more conducive to relaxation.
We know that there has been a lot of 'doom and gloom' in the UK media lately regarding an imminent crash in the Spanish property market. All we have to say about that is don't believe everything that you read!
You do have to be aware that in Spain, as in many other parts of the World, it is getting increasingly difficult to get a mortgage as lenders are being far more careful. If you are in the fortunate position to be able to purchase without a mortgage you will find many sellers keen to bargain hard to get your business.
When considering buying a property in Spain the same rules apply to your choice as apply anywhere else in the World:
Location, Location, Location!
Do not make the mistake of looking at a property simply based on the advertised price. There are hundreds, if not thousands, or properties available in Spain at very low prices but you need to ask yourself the question, 'Would I want to live there?'
We have lived for the past seven years just outside Fuengirola on an urbanisation called Mijas Golf. Over this period there has been little or no further development around us, no increase in noise levels, no increase in traffic, and certainly no increase in crime or vandalism which remain at very low levels compared to most parts of Europe.
Like all places since the start of the current 'credit crunch' there has been a rise in unemployment in Spain, and particularly on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca where the economy is geared towards the tourist and second home buyer trade.
There was also a significant drop in the number of visitors choosing Spain as a holiday destination as it was far cheaper to take a 'staycation', but this year has seen a large rise in visitors again deciding that 'Sun, Sea and Sangria' is still great value and far more fun.
This means that if you are looking to buy a property to buy as an investment the chances of holiday rental income is improving again.

Malaga International Airport is less than thirty minutes away by car, and with cheap flights from many UK airports access is easy and convenient. Many owners frequently take long weekends at their apartments as the journey is so easy!
Mijas Golf has two of the longest established golf courses located with the grounds, with a third course scheduled for completion in late 2012. El Limonar de Mijas Golf is conveniently located between two of these three courses so is a golfer's dream!
